Nook Pods Recertified as a Certified Autism Resource by IBCCES

We’re proud to announce that Nook Pods have once again earned recertification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) as a Certified Autism Resource (CAR).

As the first furniture manufacturer approved as a Certified Autism Resource in 2020, continuing this certification underscores our commitment to creating neuroinclusive furniture that supports inclusivity and accessibility in public spaces. By creating sensory sanctuaries that cater to diverse needs, we strive to help people feel calm, focused, and engaged, so they can be their best selves.

What does it mean to be a Certified Autism Resource?

In short, it means the experts at IBCCES have reviewed Nooks and confirmed they meet standards for sensory-friendly, supportive environments. That makes them a trusted inclusivity solution for public and private spaces, like schools, libraries, convention centers, offices, stadiums, etc.

Through this certification, we’re proud to have led the way in making sensory-friendly furniture more accessible, and we’re excited to see other brands join the movement toward greater inclusivity. When inclusivity wins, we all win.

Sensory-friendly Design

Being a Certified Autism Resource is a reflection of design choices that support comfort, reduce overstimulation, and foster focus. Nook Pods are designed as sensory-friendly retreats, creating quiet, comfortable spaces to focus, collaborate, or recharge. With customizable fabrics, finishes, colors, and immersive add-ons, they create an environment that feels welcoming and supportive for everyone, wherever they’re placed.

  • Pitched roof and acoustic upholstery reduce ambient noise and create a calm, comfortable setting.
  • Adjustable lighting allows users to tailor brightness and color to their needs.
  • Immersive Add-ons like twinkle light carpet panels, remote-controlled LED tubes, fiber optic elements, and interactive activity panels engage the senses in a supportive way.

How can Nooks be used?

  • Schools & classrooms: Give students a calm, private space to focus or regulate sensory input.
  • Libraries & study spaces: Provide visitors a quiet corner for concentration or relaxation.
  • Offices & co-working spaces: Create mini retreats for employees to recharge and stay productive.
  • Convention centers & stadiums: Offer guests a supportive environment in busy public areas.

Mobile, Plug & Play Convenience

Nooks are built on heavy-duty locking casters so you can easily move, reposition, and reconfigure pods as needed, giving you ultimate flexibility. One day Nook might be in your reception or waiting room to welcome guests while they wait. Another day, you may need your Nook Pods to act as a room divider to create unique working areas. And other times, you may want your Nook Pods to line the hallway and make better use of underutilized space.

Nooks have UL certified power and surge protection, and they don’t require special outlets or permits. This combination of mobility and sensory-focused design makes Nooks a versatile, plug-and-play alternative to building a permanent sensory room.

We’re proud to see Nooks making a difference in so many environments, and we’re excited to continue helping more organizations create inclusive, welcoming spaces. Contact us to learn more about Nook Pods.
